We’ve been producing short video updates on construction of NZ’s new Great Walk - the Paparoa Track and Pike Memorial track.
As the completion date looms large The Department of Conservation asked us to produce some commercials to kick off advance bookings.
Despite some horrendous weather for the shoot we managed to pull together a 90 second piece with two 30s spots for each target market.
Te Manahuna Aoraki is a very ambitious environmental project to aimed at protecting a huge and iconic area of the South Island of NZ.
An important factor in the success of the project is bringing together different stakeholders and the largest group is the local landowners.
Together with mediafix we produced a video telling their story and their hopes for the project.
We were stoked to get asked by Mitre10 to shoot another makeover for them.
This time Stan and the crew were at North School in Westport, and we were there for 4 days to capture the action. The local community banded together and put in a massive effort to create a new garden for the school. All together an amazing weekend!
We jumped at the chance to get the gummies on and get dirty on farm shooting a piece for Westland Milk Products.
It was a chance for WMP to roll out their new brand based on the natural determination of West Coast farmers and WMP staff who farm and produce leading dairy products in one of the wettest and most beautiful places in NZ.
We’ve been working weith the awesome crew at The Old Ghost Road ever since they built their incredible bike and walking track.
Ever year they run an u,ltra marathon along the length of the trail - 86kms and over 2000m ascent in one day!
We were there to capture the pain and joy
Last year we were asked to produce a film to tell the story about the positive effect the Talkit program was having with the kids at Hokitika Primary school. By teaching the children to “say it” the school has noticed a huge leap in confidence and achievement across the board.
This aspect of film making is so inspiring - seeing people making a real difference and getting the opportunity to tell their story to a wider audience!
We recently got he chance to fly around the spectacular glaciers and peaks of the Southern Alps whilst shooting a promo for Garden of Eden Helicopters.
They have opened up the aptly named Garden of Eden for tourist flights to complement the current offerings at Franz and Fox Glacier.
Te Manahuna Aoraki is a huge environmental project to conserve the biodiversity of the Upper Mackenzie and Aoraki Mt Cook National Park.
It aims to create the biggest mainland predator-free area in New Zealand to date.
We were stoked to be asked to produce a film for the launch of the project!
For the last couple of years we’ve been shooting regular video updates on the construction of New Zealand’s newest Great Walk here on the West Coast.
Here is the announcement and the reaction by the families and other stakeholders:
The first part of the process was to flag the route through the bush…
… and along the tops…
Then the construction teams got going… through the mud
… and the snow!
We followed Jamie McPherson from Tasman District Council as he explained the benefits that this advanced data collection and analysis brings to Council when deciding how to budget for complicated assets like roading.
We recently got to shoot this long form thought track with the inspirational Al Bramley (CEO of Zero Invasive Predators).
He talked about how key partnerships allowed his company to start to bring the goal of a Predator Free NZ by 2050 to reality.
Last month we had the pleasure of shooting an TV commercial with TVNZ Blacksand for Lotto. It was a wonderful couple of days and a real pleasure to be shooting with such a fun crew.
NZ has the ambitious target of getting rid of all introduced predators by 2050. But in the Perth Valley in South Westland it is already happening!
We recently shot a short video for the ZIP team who are getting set up to run the first first large scale trial to get rid of predators over 12,000 hectares of the West coast forever using their 'Remove and Protect' model.
For the last 4 months we've been shooting an ad campaign for Tourism West Coast to promote their six tourism icons.
The shoot took us to six incredible locations and we spent a day shooting in each. Working around bad weather and very busy locations proved to be a fun challenge and the feedback since the videos have been released has been exceptional.
Part of the project involved building up a stock library for TWC so excpect to see our footage winging it's way far and wide!
A couple of weeks ago we shot the Cape Fear kids adventure race near Westport.
The weather was a challenge for us and of course the kids but is was great watching them grit their teeth and make it to the end!
We've been working with the Lyell Mokihinui trust for a number of years as they built and now run The Old Ghost Road (see our doco on the amazing project at film.oldghostroad.org.nz) - an 85km single-track mountain bike and walking track on NZ's South Island.
Every year they run an ultramarathon event - the Old Ghost Ultra. This year around 250 competitors took on this mammoth challenge and we went along to capture the essence of the event.
Here's a quick edit of some of the drone footage we shot
The use of 1080 in New Zealand is incredibly polarising but one thing most people can agree on is that getting to a point where it’s not needed would be fantastic news.
So when ZIP got in touch about helping them tell the story of their latest trial in the ongoing battle to rid NZ of invasive predators we leapt at the chance!
Find out more and read the detailed findings at http://zip.org.nz/findings/2017/11/1080-to-zero-trial-in-south-westland
Every year Westland High School puts on a musical for the community. Students from the school join with members of the community and other students from some of the primary schools to put on a show that is always a hit with locals.
This year we went along to have a look behind the scenes and meet some of the people involved. We expected the people involved to be keen, but the passion and fun they have blew us away. Since we are definitely 'BEHIND the lens' kind of people. It was so good to see these kids and adults getting the opportunity they crave to get on stage and perform!
We were delighted to be asked by the Department of Conservation to produce a series of short films on the construction of NZ's newest Great Walk - the Paparoa Track and Pike 29 Memorial Track on the West Coast.
The first video in the series has just been released and sets the scene telling the story of how the track project came about and the importance of the project to the Pike 29 Families.
More videos showing the progress on track construction will be release int he going months and the track is due to open in 2019.
